The Gemini Consort – 20th and 21st Century Music

October 11, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

| Retiring Collection

A programme of tuneful, engaging 20th and 21st century music is being given by The Gemini Consort – directed by Ann Pinhey – on Saturday, 11 October in St Peter’s Church at 7.30.  It will include works by such well- loved composers as Vaughan Williams, Holst and Britten.  There will be some rarely heard choral gems, including Britten’s spirited Hymn of St Columba, Vaughan Williams’ A Choral Flourish, Walton’s haunting Drop, drop slow tears and a charming lullaby by Peter Maxwell Davies, who is 80 this year.

There will be solo instrumental music by Malcolm Arnold, whose work is noted for its melodic invention, colour, exuberance and craftsmanship.  All these qualities are displayed in his Sonatina for Recorder and his Fantasy for Trumpet.  Piano music by Walton and Maxwell Davies will also be played.

We will also be giving the first performance of a specially commissioned work for choir, Dreamscape, by Lucy Humphris, trumpeter, singer and composer  Lucy writes, “Dreamscape depicts the often abstract and ethereal nature of dreams and the scenes they conjure up.”

Admission to the concert is free and the retiring collection will be given to The Rosemary Foundation.
